Fibroid Hell

Last Friday I did an U/s with Dr. R. He did a transverse scan and noticed something odd. He said that I either had a tumor in my uterus or that my lining was growing “funny”.

I went in for my SHG yesterday and, as suspected, Dr. R found a 2cm fibroid in my uterine cavity. INSIDE the cavity. Not quite 2 years ago, Dr. Indian at Colum_bia shaved off a fibroid in that area. This is probably what grew back but with renewed vigor.

So I can complete this cycle, but we’ll most definitely have to freeze everything at the end.

Surgery needs to be scheduled. I can even do the surgery while on stims as it won’t affect anything. I can heal after retrieval. It’ll be a vaginal surgery, not a lap, as it’s likely easily accessible. Dr. R said that he suspects that my last 4 failures might be due to this damned thing warping the inner shape of the uterus.

He himself no longer does surgery as he has a shoulder problem (hopefully it doesn’t impede his ability to do a retrieval!). Dr. R recommended a surgeon at NY_U, but when I called was told that I can’t even get a consult with “doctor of choice” until the 2nd week of July. Presently they’re scheduling surgeries in August. I fathom this means that I might not get a surgery date until November.

I’m going to WFH tomorrow and call all of the other doctors in the practice. If I still can’t get a fast consult, I’ll see if Dr. R can call any of them and try to use his connections with them. Maybe that’s the better way to “start” this search.

So, ladies, I am pissed. I have had a gazillion u/s in the last 20 months since the fibroid was last seen. It’s grown, but anyone should have been able to find this. And I did warn folks that I get fibroids and to “please look for them!”

How is it that Dr. Czech’s nurses missed this fibroid just 4 weeks ago?

How is it that Dr. B missed this fibroid about 2 months ago?

How is it that Dr. Check’s nurse missed this in December at my post IVF 9 failure follow up?

How on earth did Dr. Speeding Ticket miss this during my egg retrieval in November? (I think she was so distracted from being late to my retrieval that I could have a football in my uterus and she wouldn’t have noticed.)

How did every other nurse at Dr. Czech’s miss this in every U/S I did in November? (Most of them couldn’t differentiate a follicle from an endometrioma!)

Are these things that hard to find? Or is the world filled with totally f*cked up REs?

So this further propels me towards using a GS to help me on this journey. I’ve found three gals that I would be honored to have carry my little embryos. I’m in the midst of learning more about each, and they about me, and I hope to be matched in the next week or so.

There’s not enough time to get one of them onboarded in time for this cycle so we’ll wind up doing a FET when the contracts are finalized, tests done, and her cycle determined.

I’ll still get the fibroid out as soon as I can should I decide to transfer an embryo or two into myself again one day.

My head’s spinning from how crazy this cycle has become.

On another note, I went and did another Mayan Abdominal Massage session but this time I went and saw “the” famous practitioner. I wanted to see what her “style” might be like. It was really neat meeting her as she’s sorta famous in this circle.

Well, her style of massage was similar to that of the first one, but with a lighter touch. It is sort of hard to imagine that this is something that will help, but she’s been doing this 15 years and I’m sure she knows her stuff. I need to just open my mind to this and keep at it. It was quite relaxing, lots of focus on getting lymph and blood flow to my ovaries.

So, I’ve got the tools to do this myself now.

CD1 will be tomorrow or the next day and then the cycle is in full swing.

Let the white knuckle ride begin.
